Campground Review: Limestone Lake Park Marquez, TX

A few miles to the northwest of the small Texas town of Marquez lies the Army Corps of Engineers' (CoE) Lake Limestone Park.  After picking up the repaired Tank in Ennis, TX I traveled to the park to overnight on the way back to Houston.  As a caveat use the following to find the "real" park because there is a $30/night campground north of the CoE park that Google maps will take you to in response to the "Limestone Lake Park" inquiry:  GPS: 31.339296, -96.309921

Lake Limestone is 13,680 acres of fairly clear water with a depth up to 42 feet.  During my stay the lake level (always a question mark in drought stricken Texas) was really high after spring rains.

After I found the "real" park I was disappointed that I didn't have more than one night to stay there as I was the sole camper in the whole park!  A few fisherman came in the next day but the park was all mine for camping.

 Upon entering the park there is a CoE sign prohibiting campfires but there are charcoal grills emplaced near picnic tables.

Lake Limestone Park is somewhat remote and approached over somewhat rough roads but that's probably what keeps occupant count to the low side.  It is a pleasure camping there and enjoying the almost complete quiet and I absolutely will be heading back there again!

The Tank Resurrected

The Tank is back!  The repair facility in Ennis, TX (where the accident happened) did an excellent job over a 24 day period in restoring it to all it's former glory.

My only (minor) quibble is the repair place couldn't salvage my front license plate, which you have to have in Texas, so I'll have to spring for a replacement plate.  It felt so great to sleep in my own bed after five weeks of not!  The above scene is a recent overnight at Limestone Lake Park south of Waco.  I'll do a campground review of it later on.

I'm so glad they were able to repair the Tank and not "total" it!

Recovering the Tank

I learned the Tank has been repaired and I'm heading (from Houston) up to Ennis to pick it up tomorrow....yay!  I'll do a post with after repair pics and stuff.  It's been more than a month since the accident and I'm so glad to be getting back to life I recognize as "normal".
